What is... Fiscepur - Puscifer All Remixed Up!
Puscifer's new record "All Re-Mixed Up" Released today, get it on Amazon.com or iTunes I downloaded it straightaway, because hey, I can skip lunch right? To buy a Maynard album? Of course I can, And I spent my lunch money, and my lunch break giving it an uninterrupted listen. I have been on the edge of my seat waiting for this record for a little over a month now, since I first heard that Sir Mix-a-Lot was tapped to make a remix of the title track 'Conditions of My Parole', I knew this was going to be incredible.
As I was sitting here, Typing, listening, sipping on my tea. I realized, this record came out of no where. Most releases are hyped really hard three to six months before they are released. This monster snuck up on me like the kraken. Not much of note there. But it is interesting to me, when artists release things as they see fit, as opposed to the industry standard hype, tour, interview, talk show, radio show circuit before the record comes out.
Maybe, you're thinking that's because its a remix album... yeah, and, so, what. listen to it, it's more than just a remix album. it's a complete re-imagining. It's a new record. Every track lands in my ear and heart in a new way. None of that "I like the remix better" or vice versa nonsense. It's a stand alone song. If you feel the need to argue that. Well, I haven't disabled the comments section yet.
A fast favorite would be "Horizons (John Fryer Dream of a Lie reMix)." Consisting of a two minute intro of a delayed out chant of the single word 'Horizon'. I felt it. The raw emotion. By stripping away all the layers, the song is revealed as would be any nerve or tendon. It opened me, to whatever may come. Then the verse, the sorrowful, repentant, replenishing verse. my mind flooded with the the image of standing on the shore of Long Beach, Wa. The urge to step out into the ocean was ever present. Then as the song returns the chaotic layers. I returned to the doldrum of life. But I'll always have the horizon.
With the excitement of the remix album in my ear space I nearly forgot. "What is..." the DVD and soundtrack from Puscifer Entertainment will be out on November 26th. A press release describes the release as a "two-hour sketch comedy show-meets-concert film that builds upon and punctuates the multimedia format of the band's live performances." Maynard stated "Being surrounded by so many talented and creative people is an endless source of inspiration. This film only scratches the surface of how deep our proverbial rabbit hole goes. What Is... Puscifer is meant to conjure as many questions as it answers."
