Zoës Kitchen™: My new favorite diner!

I have discovered my new favorite place to grab a bite. I know, common wisdom is you have to make it yourself to get something wholesome and non-fried. Well, Zoës Kitchen is an exception to that rule.

I want to leave this quote from their web page right here and i'll see you down below:

Born in the Mediterranean and raised in the South, Zoës Kitchen is a natural extension of Zoë Cassimus' lifetime of cooking for family and entertaining friends. Our menu is inspired by Zoë's family recipes and her simple, fresh-from-the-garden sensibility. At Zoës, ingredients are delivered fresh through the back door daily. Our team hand-washes, cuts and prepares each item from scratch in our kitchen because as Zoë says, “if it wasn’t food 100 years ago, it’s not food today.” Nothing is fried and there are no microwaves! What you’ll find at Zoës Kitchen is Mediterranean-inspired food, where grilling is the predominate method of cooking along with an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh herbs, olive oil and lean proteins; all while keeping our guests’ dietary concerns in mind-- with gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options.

So, with all that in mind. I went to the Castle Hills location today for lunch with my co-worker at their request, I was originally going to have another Soylent. I was concerned that I was going to go out and that my co-worker would pick some fried chicken place or one of those burger places that are always trying to prove who has the biggest meat.

To my great surprise they chose Zoës Kitchen, and I was totally unfamiliar with the place. When we got there it was fairly busy with a hand full of open tables and a short line. I approached the counter and expressed my concern to the kind order taker that I hadn't seen anything like this before in my life, and she directed my attention to their gaggle of options that I could choose from. The order taker was enthused for just about everything on the menu and pointed out that their entire nutrition fact table easy to find online. Nearly all within my 600 calorie goal for a reasonable lunch. As you'll see on my MyFitnessPal:

I chose and logged a delicious Gruben® with a side of roasted vegetables, washing it all down with their unsweetened Hibiscus tea. With my daily goal of 1828 calories. I realized I could totally do Zoës guilt free everyday of the week.

Now, aside from the great tasting food, and friendly staff, once I got back to the office I looked up Zoës to see what they are like as a company. It's one thing to love their food, then find out their are some big old meanie. But Zoës are exactly the opposite. Check out their website, and learn about the Zoës give back program.

In this busy world, its hard to find the time to cook each meal, and I had been relying on meal replacement shakes and the juice my wife makes. Inevitably there would be a time where neither where available and I'd go ruin my calorie plan by eating some outlandish fast food or over-portioned sit down restaurant. Zoës Kitchen is the solution I have been looking for. With nearly 50 locations (and growing) I recommend you check them out and enjoy a great tasting, made on the spot meal, especially if your vegetarian or vegan.
